<br />Ken Kaltenbach has 53 years of transportation, transit, and modeling experience. Mr. Kaltenbach is currently managing Corradino’s work as the General Planning Consultant for travel demand modeling for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District 4 (Ft. Lauderdale), the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (DOT), and travel demand modeling consultants for Metropolitan Planning Organizations in Virginia and Michigan. In recent work, he has developed visualization tools and land use models in the R scripting language.
<br />Over the past 15 years, he has been a key partner in the development of the activity-based model for the Southeast Florida region of Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties. He was the Project Manager for the development of the activity-based model for the Treasure Coast region. In recent work for FDOT District 4 he developed models for managed lanes (high occupancy toll) for the 95 Express HOT lanes, which are now in operation, and planned extensions. He has also participated in major transit new starts studies for Miami, Tampa, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, San Diego, Detroit, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, Columbus, and Louisville. Ken’s work also includes transportation planning models for the Indianapolis MPO, an update of the Kentucky Statewide Model, and travel demand models for Ashland, Lexington, and Owensboro, KY.
<br />Ken has extensive experience in developing, administering, and analyzing transportation surveys. Most notable is the 1999 household survey conducted for southeast Florida, which he managed. Corradino was the prime consultant for this survey, which was used to support the development and updates of models in Southeast Florida for many years. Corradino’s work included the household survey, a visitor’s survey (used to develop the disaggregate visitors model in SERPM7), the transit on-board survey, and the employer survey. Corradino managed a similar household survey for the Treasure Coast Region in 2002.

<br />Miami-Dade Transportation Planning Organization, Miami-Dade Transit On-Board STOPS Survey Expansion | Project Principal - Corradino managed the STOPS model development for the MPO, including data collection and survey expansion. Ken Kaltenbach developed an R script to expand the survey by route, time-of-day, direction, and route segment. The script greatly simplified the process of expanding the survey as data are updated and created the required trip tables to support the development of the STOPS model.
<br />Miami-Dade County TPO SMART Plan/North Corridor | Travel Demand Forecasting Lead Manager - Corradino conducted the analysis of the North Corridor and was responsible for system-wide modeling and STOPS modeling, plus the overall financial analysis. The SMART Plan is advancing a program of rapid transit and supporting projects in six corridors to address mobility needs. Additionally, a Bus Express Rapid Transit (BERT) network is planned.
