Broward County Public Works Department, Adaptive Traffic Control Systems (ATCS) and Fiber Optic
Network, Pine Island Rd from Orange Grove Dr to Cleary Blvd
As Project Manager and Engineer of Record, Daniel led the design of a new Adaptive Traffic Control System for the
signalized intersections along Pine Island Road. He designed new sites for traffic signal cabinet replacements,
allocated pull boxes and conduits for signalization cables, provided spare conduits for future expansion, and
designed new Fiber Optic Cable infrastructure. He also implemented a hybrid radar/video detection system and
configured detection zones for future Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures.
Florida's Turnpike Enterprise (FTE), Wrong-Way Vehicle Detection System (WWVDS) Implementation
Design-Build Project
As Project Manager and Engineer of Record, Daniel directed the design of Wrong-Way Vehicle Detection Systems
covering exit ramps along the HEFT, Turnpike Mainline, and Sawgrass Expressway, using combined thermal, radar,
and video detection with automated alerts to FTE traffic operations. All systems were solar-powered and integrated
into FTE's Traffic Management Center via wireless communications, with ground-mounted ITS cabinets, and were
developed to FDOT Standards, the FDOT Design Manual, and the Turnpike Design Handbook.
MDC-DTPW, Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS)
As Senior ITS Engineer, Daniel led the county-wide ATMS software upgrade and the associated traffic signal
controllers and actuated intersections. He managed the traffic signal controller migration task, migrating existing
signal timing databases to new controllers, and oversaw the programming, testing, and signal retiming of the
county's controllers and intersections.
Broward County Public Works Department, NW __ Ave Fiber Optics Improvements from Broward Blvd to
Commercial Blvd
Serving as the design engineer, Daniel led the design of a new single-mode fiber optic cable (SMFOC) segment on
NW __ Avenue from Broward Boulevard to Commercial Boulevard. He interconnected the fiber optic backbone at
each signalized intersection to Broward County's signalization infrastructure using single-mode lateral drops and
built in communications redundancy by connecting the new fiber into corridors with existing fiber optic networks.
