HBC Engineering Company | 164
5 Years with KCI
20 Total Years
of Experience
Ms. Barranco’s combined interests in art, design, and nature and her agricultural background
paint a broad palette for her designs. She plays an integral role in the visioning, design, project
management, and implementation of projects in both private and government sectors. Through
a collaborative design process, Ms. Barranco has an acute ability to synthesize conceptual ideas
with practical solutions. She has been the lead designer for various domestic parks, academic
campuses, ecological restorations, commercial sites, and streetscapes that enhance each
community. Prior to joining KCI, Ms. Barranco started her own practice, designing and managing a
wide range of projects, including hospitality, institutional, and commercial design.
Project Experience
5th Street Play Spot, Miami-Dade County. Miami, FL. Senior Project
Manager. KCI prepared design development drawings and is working
on the construction documents related to implementing improvements
to this park site in a dense urban area. KCI performed site analysis
and inventory, created concept designs and budgeting, and worked
with Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation, and Open Spaces to
realize their vision. The programmed elements include a nature-based
playground (ages 2-5 and 5-12), hardscape improvements, site lighting,
park site amenities (benches, trash cans, dog waste stations), walkway
through the site, landscape improvements, irrigation system, entrance
improvements, and fencing.
Lyons Road Phase V, City of Coconut Creek. Coconut Creek, FL. Landscape Architect. KCI developed a master plan for
the enhancement of a seven-mile corridor project. This initiative included the development of a cohesive landscape and
hardscape design, gateway enhancements at major intersections, and the realignment of sidewalks. KCI also produced
design and construction drawings for all phases of the project, which featured improvements in median landscaping,
hardscaping, and irrigation. Spanning from Atlantic Boulevard to Coconut Creek Parkway, this stretch was the final section
of the master plan. The project involved landscaping, hardscaping, irrigation, and obtaining the necessary permits through
Broward County.
Loxahatchee Environmental Engagement Campus, Loxahatchee River Environmental Control District. Jupiter, FL.
Landscape Architect. KCI provided master site planning services to the Loxahatchee River Environmental Control District
(LRECD) for this 20-acre site. KCI performed site analysis and inventory, created concept designs and budgeting, and
worked with LRECD to realize a master plan capturing their vision. The master plan for the Environmental Engagement
Campus showcases the function of the LRECD within the unique local environment, including the Loxahatchee River, and
the stewardship of which is the focus of LRECD’s mission.
Washington Park, City of North Miami Beach. North Miami Beach, FL. Landscape Architect. KCI is providing professional
landscape architectural, civil, and survey services to the City of North Miami Beach in support of the complete replacement
of Washington Park. The park is located in the City’s historic neigh-borhood of the same name. The park will include a
community center, pool and splashpad, playground, covered basketball courts, restrooms, parking, multi-purpose field,
landscape, and irrigation. Retrofitting of sidewalks and play areas were designed for ADA compliance.
Griffin Road East Landscape Design, City of Dania Beach. Dania Beach, FL. Landscape Architect. KCI developed
the landscape design for the corridor’s medians, incorporating a fully underground irrigation system with a water-truck
connection to support plant establishment and supplemental watering during dry periods.
Corridor Landscape Master Plan, City of Dania Beach. Dania Beach, FL. Landscape Architect. The Dania Beach Corridor
Landscape Master Plan, developed by KCI for the City of Dania Beach, focuses on improving the identity, safety, and
resilience of major thoroughfares, including US-1, Griffin Road, and Dania Beach Boulevard. The plan involved analyzing
existing street trees and corridor conditions for visibility, maintenance, and hurricane resilience. It emphasizes community
character and aesthetic goals, providing guidance on tree species, planting arrangements, and landscape strategies to
enhance traffic calming and pedestrian comfort. The final plan serves as a phased roadmap for sustainable landscape
improvements across key corridors.
Natalia Barranco, RLA
Senior Landscape Architect
Fort Lauderdale, FL
Certifications & Registrations
• RLA FL 6666983 (2008)
Education
• BLA Landscape Architecture, University
of Florida
• AA Landscape Technology Program,
Broward College
