Page 5

concrete cap and the required beam seats and end walls.
5.5. After the concrete end bent cap has achieved 28 day strength and the MSE Wall has been
set under the bridge centerline, use the lattice boom crawler crane to set and temporarily
brace the 36” I-Beams and Rectangular Haunched Beams between End Bent 1 and Bent 2
and End Bent 6 and Bent 5.
5.6. Once Bridge Concrete is complete and the MSE retaining wall is backfilled and
appropriately compacted to bottom of approach slab elevation, form and place the 1ft
thick approach slabs at each end of the bridge. Approach slabs shall be doweled into the
backwall and poured with the MSE wall coping. The approach slab shall have a step to
incorporate the 1¾” asphalt overlay and shall have a transverse broom finish on exposed
surfaces. Utilize Expanded Polystyrene cover over MSE wall at the Coping.
5.7. Install CIP concrete gutter between MSE coping and end bent cap.
5.8. Extend the 32” traffic railing, in accordance with the superstructure concrete after
approach slab and coping installation.
5.9. Place 1¾” Asphalt overlay in a single lift over approach slab

6. Superstructure
6.1. After the 36” I-Beams and Rectangular Haunched Beams are set on each span, cast in
place concrete crews will continue work, concurrently with the additional bridge work, to
form and place the auxiliary cast in place concrete which includes bracing, safety sleeves,
intermediate diaphragms, cheek walls, expansion dams, premoulded expansion materials,
roofing paper, end diaphragms, sidewalls and end bent backwalls.
6.2. Upon completion of each spans of auxiliary concrete, install the galvanized steel stay in
place deck forms. Beam Camber shall be monitored throughout the construction process
and shall be measured and compared to theoretical @ 120 days. All measurements shall
be compared to the predicted and beam build ups shall be incorporated, prior to stay in
place form installation, at the direction of the engineer.
6.3. Install overhang brackets for the deck pour outside of the outer and Rectangular Haunched
Beams. Install with overhangs large enough to install handrails and work platform outside
of bridge area. Overhang formwork will incorporate continuous v-groove on the bottom
of the overhang.
6.4. Install end forms for each span with screed rails mounted to the tops of the forms
6.5. Install deck reinforcing, expansion dams, bulkheads and 2” electrical conduit and required
junction boxes
6.6. Place cast in place concrete utilizing a 32 meter concrete pump and place the concrete
from the center of the span outward towards each bent. Grade will be checked after initial
placement to ensure the concrete final elevation takes into account for beam deflection.
Deck pour shall incorporate a 2% crown.
6.7. Finish deck concrete with Bidwell Screed and Floats.
6.8. After placing, curing and stripping the deck, form and place the light pole pilasters in
accordance with index 21200.
