The additional 207-space scope included an
enclosed canine area, the construction of a CMU wall between the parking
garage and school buildings, and special inspection services in accordance
with Florida Building Code 2010 for the precast concrete units, reinforced
masonry and steel connections.
Project challenges included an aggressive one month design-bid-build and
delivery schedule for construction documents. To avoid expensive
construction delays, Thornton Tomasetti redesigned the deep foundation
system along the north side of the building because of an unforeseen
existing underground utility line. The redesign saved the owner time and
money, instead of relocating the underground utility line. The project was
utilized with Revit platform to streamline and meet the requirements of a strict
delivery schedule.
