perkinswill.com 117
SAVINO MILLER SIMILAR WORK EXPERIENCE
The 709 Alton Road Commercial Center is located in Miami Beach on Alton Road, a
major north-south artery which services a thriving retail and business district along its
corridor. Slated to be a new center for Baptist Hospital medical offices, the project pro-
vides a large rooftop garden designed to invite patients and employees to congregate,
relax and get some fresh air. The garden’s spaces and planting design are configured to
provide sun and shade throughout the day. Native plants were largely specified to cre-
ate a natural atmosphere, as well as their therapeutic, healing qualities induced by color,
fragrance and their attraction to wildlife. At the street level, a simple streetscape calls
for large, up lit Live Oaks in a continuous curbside planter, which functions to screen the
busy street from the ground floor offices and create a pedestrian-friendly place. The
east side of the building was largely screened with native, clustering Paurotis Palms to
buffer the views from neighboring residents. Our services included design, layout and
material selection for all site/open space improvements, including planting, paving and
hardsurfaces, site lighting and irrigation.
Location: Miami Beach, Florida
Client: KGM Equities, LLC And South Beach Heights II, LLC
Service: Design, layout and material selection for all site/open
space improvements, planting, paving and hardsurfaces,
site lighting and irrigation
Architect: Perkins + Will
Principal-in-Charge: Barry Miller
Date: On-going
COMMERCIAL709 ALTON ROAD
9
