Summary Minutes:Regular City Commission Meeting April 16,2015 City of Sunny Isles Beach,Florida Commission. You can take 5. 6, 7 months to do the reports; hand it in, and present it but being that it is such a complex issue it is important to give us the initial data and initial feel prior to your conclusions and recommendations. Mr. Corradino said absolutely and that is what they intend to do, and Mayor Scholl said you will be giving the Commission a progress report. Mr. Corradino said yes because he wants to be able to show you what they have collected, what the existing conditions are, analyze that and tell you what our potential solutions are by mode and get your feeling for that. He does not want to make recommendations in a vacuum, that is not going to help him, he can Use his expertise to guide but the Commission really has to help. We will have to do this as'a partnership if we are going to have real impact, and eventually you are going to have to put this infrastructure on the street. Marianna Talalaevsky said when you do the study can you look into the morning and the afternoon on how many more cars we getting from outside of the City because she knows that it affects traffic tremendously because she has friends in Golden Beach who said there is a lot of traffic coming in north of them, and there should not be any traffic coming in north of Golden Beach. When she leaves her house by 8:10 a.m. it is a standstill on Collins Avenue. Most of the traffic is bringing the kids in, and it is not possible that all those kids are coming from the Golden Beach area. She thinks the best solution for the traffic is when we get rid of all the construction trucks on Collins Avenue. Commissioner Goldman said the Town Hall Meeting is a very effective means of communicating, or having the residents communicate their wishes and their objectives. Will there be other methods for the people that cannot come to the Town Hall Meeting? Mr. Corradino said yes, they use a crowd sorting web-based program called "Community Remarks". They put it on the City's website enabling people at home and they can interact with pictures, they can put comments in, they can take a picture of a problem and send it to us. Also there will be Stakeholders meetings where we are talking to each of you individually,and a list of citizens that you prefer we talk to individually,we will go to them. If we can go to a homeowner's association meeting, or go somewhere and have coffee in small groups, ultimately ending up in a Commission meeting where we have a more broad conversation. Commissioner Goldman said that is very positive. Alex David said they are using that program in Fort Lauderdale and so far we have gotten over 600 comments on the Evaluation and Appraisal Report for the City's Comprehensive Plan update, and so it does work. Mayor Scholl said that we can also put an article in the paper, we can give direction on the website, and we want as much public opinion on this as possible: Commission Levin asked if they have an example of what kind of changes that you may want to recommend for infrastructure given what we have here in Sunny Isles Beach? In regard to Vice Mayor Gatto's comment about going back and forth from Publix,wliat kind of solutions have you seen in the past, like a direct bus route or putting up more shade trees to get people to walk, etc. Mr. Corradino said there are all types of things just like that, he likes to try to connect the traffic generators from the origins to their destinations. That may be from taking pockets of density and you are making sure that the parks and school are connected from the residential areas and shopping areas. You want to make sure you have quality urban design, trees along the streets so that it is less hot or less rainy.
