RFQ No. 15-08-02
Construction Management at Risk for Government Center Annex at 18080 Collins Avenue 17
Project Description:
New construction of a 90,000 s.f., 4 story classroom building for Broward College. The 1st &
2nd floors are occupied by Broward College, and the 3rd & 4th floors are be occupied by FIU.
With some areas as common areas, and lease agreements in place between the two clients,
Kaufman Lynn Construction ensured that all related costs were tracked independently, and
communicated information effectively, so that each entity could more effectively make
decisions regarding their design and final costs. Project includes classrooms, science labs,
student academic support and administration space and provides approximately 580 parking
spaces. Built on a 20 acre site that includes approximately 9.5 acres of buildable, non-wetland
conservation easement area. The shell is tilt wall construction with prestressed concrete joists &
beams, and cast in place slabs. The first floor will have a food service venue, Subway, with open
atriums between levels 1 & 2, and levels 3 & 4. While Broward College is the main end user, with
FIU subletting space, there is a private developer (MACQ Florida I) that is privately funding this
design/build project and leasing the space back to Broward College.
Project Relevancies:
• Similar Size • Office Space • Meeting Rooms
• Education Purpose Use • Public/Municipal Project • Same Architect
• Same Build Team • Administrative Space • New Construction
• Classrooms • Multi-user Facility
MIRAMAR WEST CENTER
Miramar, Florida

OWNER’S REPRESENTATIVE
Jon Kling, Municipal Acquisitions
1050 30th Street NW
Washington, DC 20007
202.333.5300
jkling@municipalacquistions.com

ARCHITECT’S REPRESENTATIVE
Carlos Chiu, Perkins + Will
806 Douglas Rd, Suite 300
Miami, FL 33134
305.569.1376
carlos.chiu@perkinswill.com

BUDGET
$23.0 million

FINAL COST
$23.0 million

PROJECT SIZE
90,000 s.f.

COMPLETED
July 2014

COMPANY ROLE/RESPONSIBILITY
Design/Build

KEY PERSONNEL INVOLVED
Chris Long
Garret Southern
Al Villarreal
Related Experience
Section F
