Ms.Claudia Hasbun,Zoning Administrator
City of Sunny Isles Beach
IV. Art in Public Places: Consistent with Section 104 of the Code, Applicant proposes
a beautiful artistic treatment to the building. Please refer to the renderings and elevations in the
Plans for illustrations of the proposed art sculpture. In sum, Applicant is proposing a structure to
wrap around the garage and the \Vest side of the tower. This art sculpture will shield the garage
from public view, while also creating an interesting and substantial piece of art to the Project. In
addition to the artwork on the garage, the Applicant is continuing the artwork along the spine of the
building facing West which provides aesthetic benefits to the community West of the Project.
The sculptural wall consists of imaginative wave-shape punched panels inspired by the
waves across the street. The design is tied to nature in a cohesive artistic piece visible from its
surroundings. The panels are situated horizontally in a 5' x 30' grid and constructed of an
aluminum composite material. The art sculpture essentially floats on the building through a
concealed aluminum suspension system. Behind the perforated panels is a metal mesh that will
enclose the parking structure while serving as a backdrop to the sculptured design. To enhance the
floating effect, the carved screen will be back-lit at night with LED light fixtures. The estimated
value of the art work is $526,500, which exceeds the maximum required art contribution.
V. Agency Approvals: The Applicant will coordinate with all required reviewing
agencies, including, but not limited to Miami-Dade County School Board, Miami-Dade County Fire
Department, Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer Department, Florida Department of
Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration. The Applicant understands and
acknowledges that all required agency approvals must be obtained prior to construction. The
Applicant will continue to meet and discuss the Project with these agencies throughout the site plan
review process.
Based on the foregoing, we respectfully request your favorable review and recommendation
of the Application. In the event you have any questions or require anything further, please do not
hesitate to contact me at 305-579-0784.
Thank you in advance and we look forward to working with you on this Project.
Sincerely,
Greenberg Traurig, P.A.
Ethan B.
