Plants transported to the project in open vehicles shall be covered with tarpaulins or other <br />suitable covers securely fastened to the body of the vehicle to prevent injury to the plants. <br />Closed vehicles shall be adequately ventilated to prevent overheating of the plants. <br />2. Plants shall be kept moist, fresh, and protected at all times. Such protection shall <br />encompass the entire period during which the plants are in transit, being handled, or are <br />in temporary storage. <br />3. Unless otherwise authorized by the Landscape Architect, Contractor shall notify the <br />Landscape Architect at least two working days in advance of the anticipated delivery date <br />of any plant material. A legible copy of the bill of lading, showing quantities, kinds, and <br />sizes of materials included for each shipment shall be furnished to the Landscape <br />Architect. <br /> <br /> C. Storage <br />1. Unless specific authorization is obtained from the Landscape Architect, plants shall not <br />remain on the site of the work any longer than two days prior to being installed. <br />2. Plants that are not installed immediately shall be protected as follows: <br />a. Plants shall be stored in an area protected from high winds, extreme temperatures, <br />flooding, theft, vandalism, or other potential causes of damage. <br />b. Shade-grown plants shall be stored in a shaded location. <br />c. Rootballs shall be kept moist and intact. <br />d. Plants shall not be allowed to dry out. <br />3. Both the duration and method of storage of plant materials shall be subject to the <br />approval of the Landscape Architect. <br /> <br /> D. Handling of Plant Materials <br />1. Exercise care in handling plant materials to avoid damage or stress. <br /> <br />1.11 <br /> <br /> A. Evidence of improper digging, transportation, storage, or handling of plant material shall be cause <br />for rejection. <br /> <br /> B. Upon arrival at the temporary storage location or the site of the work, plants shall be inspected by <br />the Landscape Architect for damage or stress due to improper digging, transportation, storage, or <br />handling of plant material. Any plants which are damaged or stressed due to such causes shall be <br />rejected. <br /> <br /> C. Contractor shall remove all rejected plants from the area of work and replace them with plants of <br />the same quantities, species, sizes, and qualities specified. <br /> <br />REJECTION OF MATERIALS: <br />1.12 <br /> <br />PLANTING SEASON: <br />A. Planting shall be performed when weather and soil conditions are suitable for planting the material <br />specified, in accordance with locally accepted practice. <br /> <br />1.13 <br /> <br />A. The Contractor shall at their cost, observe all safety regulations including: placing and display of <br />safety devices, provisions of police to control traffic, etc., as may be necessary in order to conduct <br />the public through the project area in accordance with FDOT’s “Manual of Traffic Controls and <br />Safe Practices for Street and Highway Construction, Maintenance and Utility Operations.” <br /> <br />TRAFFIC CONTROL: <br />1.14 <br /> <br />SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION:
