No materials other than the types specified or approved may be delivered to the project site. All <br />unapproved materials shall be removed from project site immediately. <br /> 5. Paint shall be well ground and shall not settle readily, cake, or thicken in container; shall be broken <br />up readily with a paddle to a smooth consistency; and shall have easy brushing properties. <br /> 6. Storage of all paint materials and equipment shall be in assigned areas. <br /> 7. Protect floor and wall surfaces against damage. <br /> 8. Take necessary precautions to keep fire hazard to a minimum. <br /> 9. Leave surfaces of storage space clean and in condition required for equivalent spaces in the project. <br /> <br /> B. Oils: <br /> 1. Raw Linseed Oil: Shall conform to ASTM D-234. <br /> 2. Boiled Linseed Oil: Shall conform to ASTM D-260. <br /> <br /> C. Lead: <br /> 1. White Lead: Shall conform to ASTM D-81. <br /> 2. Red Lead: Shall conform to ASTM D83. <br /> <br /> D. Colors for Tinting: Shall be as recommended by the manufacturer of paint or finish. <br /> <br /> E. Putty: Shall conform to ASTM D-317. <br /> <br /> F. Shellac: Pure white gum cut in pure denatured alcohol. <br /> <br /> G. Thinners: <br /> 1. Turpentine: Pure gum spirits of turpentine, conforming to ASTM D-13-51. <br /> 2. Mineral Spirits: Conforming to ASTM D-236.61. <br /> 3. Special Thinners: As recommended by paint manufacturer. <br /> <br />PART 3 - EXECUTION <br /> <br />3.01 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS <br /> <br />: <br /> A. Before starting any work, the painting subcontractor shall inspect all surfaces to be painted or finished. He <br />shall notify the Contractor, in writing, of any unsuitability of surfaces for painting or finishing, with a copy <br />to the Engineer. <br /> 1. The commencing of work or the absence of the notification in writing shall be construed as <br />acceptance of the surfaces by the painting subcontractor. It shall be the responsibility of the painting <br />subcontractor to correct any defects appearing in the painting work thereafter. <br /> 2. All spaces shall be broom clean before painting is started. <br /> 3. All surfaces shall be dry. Test plaster with 1- percent solution of phenolphthalein in alcohol to <br />insure dryness and neutralness of plaster. Test for suitable dryness of surfaces and sub-surfaces with <br />moisture meter. Follow recommendations of paint manufacturer for allowable moisture. <br /> 4. All surfaces shall be free of foreign matter before applying paint on finish. <br /> <br /> 5. New woodwork to receive paint finish shall be turned over to the painting subcontractor to receive <br />required finish, needing only a light sanding by the painting subcontractor. <br /> <br />B. No work shall be done under conditions that are unsuitable for the production of good results. <br /> 1. Do not apply varnish or paint when temperature is below 50 degrees F. <br /> 2. Do not apply exterior paint in damp, rainy weather or heavy salt air environment (windy) <br /> 3. Do not apply paint on surfaces so hot as to prevent proper application and drying. <br /> 4. Do not apply finishes in spaces where dust is being generated which would speck the finish. <br />
