Remove and protect hardware, accessories, device plates, lighting fixtures, factory finished work, and <br />similar items, or provide ample in-place protection. Upon completion of each space, carefully replace all <br />removed items using only skilled mechanics for removal, replacements and protection. <br /> <br /> D. Remove doors to paint tops and bottoms. <br /> <br /> E. Remove electrical panel box covers and doors before painting wall. Paint separately and reinstall after all <br />paint is dry. <br /> <br />3.02 PREPARATION OF SURFACES <br /> <br />: <br /> A. General: <br /> 1. Surfaces shall be clean, dry and adequately protected from dampness. <br /> 2. Surfaces shall be smooth, even and true to plane. <br /> 3. Surfaces shall be free of any material that will adversely affect adhesion or appearance of applied <br />coating. <br /> <br /> B. Wood: <br /> 1. Sandpaper to smooth and even surface, then dust off. <br /> 2. After priming coat has dried, apply shellac, not over two (2) pounds cut, to all knots, pitch and <br />resinous sapwood. <br /> 3. After priming coat has dried, putty all nail holes, cracks, open joints and other defects. Putty shall be <br />colored to match stain or paint. <br /> <br /> C. Concrete and Masonry: <br /> 1. Fill all minor holes to produce uniform texture over surfaces (keep a smooth clean finish) <br /> 2. Acid etch concrete surfaces receiving oil-based paints. <br /> <br /> D. Ferrous Surfaces: <br /> 1. Remove dirt, grease or rust with mineral spirits. <br /> 2. Remove dust, mill scale, rust, and defective paint down to sound surface using scraper, sandpaper, <br />or wire brush as necessary. Grind, if necessary, to remove shoulders at edge of sound paint to <br />prevent flaws from photographing through finish coats. <br /> 3. Touch-up all spots and damaged shop coats with rust inhibitive primer, or rust protection <br /> <br />3.03 COLORS <br /> <br />: Colors shall match color chips approved by the City. <br />3.04 MIXING AND TINTING <br /> <br />: <br /> A. Job mixing or job tinting may be done only when approved by the City. <br /> <br /> B. Thinning shall be done only in accordance with the manufacturer's directions. <br /> <br /> C. Tinting colors shall be as recommended by the manufacturer for the specific type of finish. <br /> <br /> D. Provide galvanized iron pans of suitable size in which mixing pails shall be placed. Do not mix outside of <br />these pans. <br /> <br />3.05 SCHEDULE OF PAINTING <br /> except where noted: <br />: Based on materials as manufactured by Devoe and Benjamin Moore and Co., <br /> <br /> A.
