<br />01560 - 3/4 <br />conformance with all environmental requirements. <br />1.5 POLLUTION CONTROL <br /> <br />A. CONTRACTOR shall provide methods, means and facilities required to prevent <br />Contamination of soil, water or atmosphere by the discharge of noxious <br />substances from construction operations. <br />B. CONTRACTOR shall take special measures to prevent harmful substances from <br />entering public water. <br />1 Prevent disposal of wastes, effluents, chemicals, or other such substances <br />adjacent to streams, or in sanitary or storm sewers. <br />2 Disposal of materials in wetlands or surface waters is prohibited. <br /> <br />C. All CONTRACTOR'S equipment used during construction shall conform to all <br />current federal, state and local laws and regulations. <br />D. The use of burning at the project site for the disposal of refuse and debris will not <br />be permitted. <br />1.6 PEST AND RODENT CONTROL <br />A. CONTRACTOR shall provide rodent and pest control as necessary to prevent <br />infestation of construction and storage area and adjoining properties. <br />1. Employ methods and use materials, which will not adversely affect conditions <br />at the site or on adjoining properties. <br />1.7 EROSION CONTROL <br />A. CONTRACTOR shall plan and execute construction and earthwork by methods to <br />control surface drainage from cuts and fills to prevent erosion and sedimentation. <br />1 Hold the areas of bare soil exposed to a minimum. <br />2 Provide temporary control measures such as berms, dikes, drains, hay bales <br />and siltation fence. <br /> <br />B. CONTRACTOR shall periodically inspect earthwork to detect any evidence of the <br />start of erosion, and shall apply corrective measures as required to control erosion. <br />Contractor shall provide all labor, materials, and equipment to install and maintain <br />throughout the duration of the construction activities all hay bales and siltation <br />fence, as necessary. Specifically, the hay bales and siltation fence shall be <br />installed to prevent sediment transport from the site construction activities into the <br />neighboring properties, wetlands, streams and drains. <br />C. The hay shall be free of noxious weeds and deleterious substances. The hay shall <br />be securely baled with wire of adequate size to allow for possible rusting while in <br />use, or by nylon twine, and to permit rehandling when the bale is in a saturated <br />condition. Hay bales shall be rectangular shaped and each shall weigh at least 40 <br />pounds, but less than I00 pounds.
