0
® City of Sunny Isles Beach - RFQ No. 12-04-02-Traffic Engineering &Transportation Consulting
® Although successful in providing the best possible services to its residents, the
0 City faces issues that many communities face, including: transportation, need
® for additional park space, redevelopment, and overcrowded schools.
S
® The City has an extensive beach walk program which allows better connectivity for
residents west of Collins Avenue to access the beach. The only true north/south
® corridor serving the City is Collins Avenue, which is prone to traffic congestion at
many times of the day. This will remain the condition into the future as there is no R-
® O-W for widening. Crossing this facility can be complicated, particularly when
people attempt to cross mid-block. Over the years attempts have been made to
minimize j-walking and incentivize crossing at intersections;
® Redevelopment of the few remaining oceanfront parcels may be considered a
® priority along with redevelopment of the City's Town Center area north of Sunny
® Isles Beach Boulevard. Currently, the west side of Collins Avenue consists of a
® series of shopping centers on parcels that are very much underutilized and also
$ act as a barrier to the residential areas to the west.
0
Along with increased densities and intensities (and popularity as a place to live)
® comes the need to provide additional services. Completion of additional park
® space will be critical, along with the need to provide parking for residents and
visitors alike.
GI
® High quality residential and commercial projects and, their review are critical to
® the ongoing success of,the City. Yet challenges with, parking, transportation,
®' and mobility all exist./From a planning and .engineering perspective, Corradino
understands how to deal with each of the tasks that may present themselves as
® part of this effort. Direct, relevant experience in doing so for many cities,
® particularly Miami Beach since the 1990s, makes Corradino an -excellent
selection, one that will add value to each, of the assigned work orders.
® Transportation engineering and planning in South Florida; particularly the barrier
® island, is a constant challenge. It takes attention to assure that, as our cities
continue to grow, they are able to maintain adequate infrastructure.
Roadways, drainage, and water systems are a foundation on which private
® development is layered. Upgrading this infrastructure to accommodate new
development is critical. As times change, and the City's demographics are
shifting, the infrastructure needs change as well. As always, traffic and
® congestion is an issue in an area with such confined space. There are few
alternative route options, so various options need to be examined to move
® people to where they need and want to go.
r"o in A rt I K I r% 2-12
VV I nfl LJ 11 \ V
