They are done in an itemized spreadsheet that
corresponds to the plans. Some projects require a cost benefit analysis in terms of resource allocation.
These studies help our clients in phasing the projects and implementing as money becomes available.
® • Meetings with City Staff, Presentations to Commission & Peer Reviews:
We are used to presenting our design ideas to different clients and clients' review committees: such as
® historic boards, design review boards, staff meetings, etc. Additionally, we have also participated in
O community meetings to achieve consensus in charrettes and meetings. These meetings have been
® particularly important when we work with residential communities such as The Venetian Islands,
Orchard Park, etc, in Miami Beach and other projects requiring approval such as Pinecrest Gardens
® Lighting, South Pointe Park and Museum Park.
• Natural Resource Planning, Analysis and Design and Local Plants:
® We believe in the comprehensive framework for resource planning. In creating a comprehensive,
coordinated resource planning for improvements we believe that the City of Sunny Isles Beach will
® not only develop a common language for the City but it will promote sustainable practices if such
resources are obtained or produced locally. This common framework will include:
® Tree Canopy: Maintenance of canopy while replacing trees as needed/required
® Plant Palette: Identify other plants/plantings that promote a unique identity to Sunny Isles Beach
Sustainability: Materials selection, lighting and drainage solutions should take into account improving
® the sustainability of the City
Maintenance: Design for long-term durability/low maintenance
® Art: Integrate opportunities for art in public spaces
Site Furniture: Coordinate selection of site furniture to be functional but also contribute to the
® character and quality of the City
Irrigation, paving design and lighting consultation could be included in any of the projects requested
by this RFQ
Generally, the planting selection's goal is to preserve and enhance tree canopy and create streets
® that allow trees to comfortably share space, beautifying the street while cooling the air. The obvious
"best" method for growing trees in an urban environment is to give as much open space as possible
® to the planter itself. In busy sidewalks, this is not often possible — or practical — given the street's
® pedestrian needs. Lots of research has been recently done on developing techniques for optimizing
® tree growth below paved areas, such as structural soils, porous granular pavements, root/biological
barriers, soil cells and root paths, without damaging the paving above as trees mature.
•
We are well versed in the design and implementation of"Xeriscape" landscapes. Various methods
are available to effectively conserve water and other resources, such as grouping plants by water
requirements, irrigation "zoning", the design of porous pipe underground irrigation, use of gravels
® and native drought-tolerant plants, and mulching. Just as importantly, is the need to minimize
demands for maintenance. Generally, our design documents reflect the most current techniques
for low maintenance, resource-efficient landscapes.
o Our demonstrated project experience in the areas requested by this RFQ include:
• Urban Design Plans / Concept Diagrams:
® The Coconut Grove Planning Study and the Miami Design District Charrettes (with DPZ, founders
® of New Urbanism, as Prime Consultant). The Homestead Bayfront Park Master Plan, which won
o the APA Gold Section Award of Excellence in 2007.
SavinotflI 7- Rx--R•wwStudio= 110#12-04-02 15
0
