LAND DESIGN SERVICES DIVISION
LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE // PLANNING // ENVIRONMENTAL
TRANSPORTATION // ENGINEERING // SURVEYING & SUE // CREATIVE SERVICES
The City of Parkland initiated the design of Barkland, its
first dog park, in the Fall of 2010. WGI’s Land Design
Services Division teamed up with Keith and Associates
to design and permit the 2 acre doggie playground. Our
firm was responsible for providing landscape drawings,
irrigation drawings, and equipment specifications for the
site furnishings and accessories. Land Design Services
also provided presentation graphics and elevation
renderings for representation before Parkland’s City
Council.
Barkland includes two separate fenced-in play areas,
one area for large dogs and one area for small dogs.
There are two large walking trails that loop through the
site to connect the park’s pavilions, benches, picnic
tables, and drinking fountains. There is also plenty of
room for man’s best friend to exercise on the play station
equipment or run free in the open grass fields. The park
opened for play in January 2012 and was immediately
successful. Barkland has become a great destination
place for a local community to gather and spend time
with their family pets.
BARKLAND DOG PARK
LOCATION:
Parkland, Florida
REFERENCE:
The City of Parkland
Mr. Brian Archer // Management Analyst
Ms. Caryn Gardner-Young // City Manager
6600 University Drive
Parkland, Florida 33067
Phone: 954.757.4153
954.753.5040
DATE STARTED:
Design August 2010
Construction N/A
DATE COMPLETED:
Design January 2012
Construction N/A
TOTAL COST:
Design $30K
Construction $300K
PROJECT MANAGER:
Brian Terry, RLA, LEED AP
KEY STAFF:
Doug Murray, RLA
Richard Donofrio, RLA
PAGE 13
