APPLICATION No. 9 <br /> CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH COMPREHENSIVE PLAN <br /> CONSERVATION ELEMENT AMENDMENTS <br /> 1. Add a new Objective 6 and policies 6A — 6 as follows: <br /> Objective 6. Protect and enhance local ecosystems, optimizing the co-benefits of coastal <br /> buffers, mangrove areas, urban reforestation and expanded green infrastructure in <br /> creating a healthy, enjoyable and climate change resilient environment. <br /> Policy 6A. The City shall support local, County and regional environmental restoration, <br /> mitigation and adaptation management initiatives, and efforts to improve the resiliency of <br /> natural lands and systems to potential climate change. <br /> Policy 6B. The City, in coordination with other agencies, shall consider and seek to <br /> accommodate the climate adaptation needs of native plant and animal species. <br /> Policy 6C. The City, in coordination with other agencies, shall promote species <br /> diversity, the planting of native landscapes, and sustainable urban forest landscape <br /> practices to protect the health and resiliency of natural systems to potential climate <br /> change. <br /> Policy 6D. The City, in coordination with other agencies, should seek to protect coastal <br /> ecosystems from contamination resulting from inundation, structural failure, or <br /> abandonment resulting from sea level rise, storm events, or other climate related impacts. <br /> Policy 6E. The City will protect and enhance its coastal resources and shoreline <br /> through implementation of stabilization projects in accordance with the recommendations <br /> of the 2009 Shoreline Stabilization Study. <br /> 2. Add a new Conservation Element Monitoring Measures Section as follows: <br /> The following Monitoring Measures will be utilized by the City in its ongoing planning <br /> programs and Comprehensive Plan Evaluation and Appraisal process to measure <br /> progress in achieving the objectives of the Conservation Element: <br /> Monitoring Measure(s): <br /> 1. Achievement of resource quality standards. <br /> 2. Achievement of resource conservation goals. <br /> 3. Policy Implementation Status. <br /> A-37 <br />
