The purpose of the project was to restore an area that had been damaged by the grounding of the
Columbus Iselin, the University of Miami's research vessel. The area suffered not only destruction of the
surface growth, but continued erosion due to fractures into the substrate of the reef. Boulders and 77
cubic yards of concrete were used to cap the area and provide a solid surface for new growth. Corals
cached nearby were then transplanted back to the damaged area. The remote location, eight miles
offshore, presented unique logistical challenges and required that a concrete batch plant be assembled
on a barge and moored at the site for placement of a specialty non -separable underwater concrete.
Miami Dade Ocean Outfall Repairs, FL - Responsibilities included planning and supervision of
construction and dive operations including pipeline inspection, selection of mooring sites in sensitive reef
° Olin Hydrographic Solutions, Inc.
IH JWaPNf c Constdting Engineering, Environmental and Mapping Services
C.ui ^.nS, IM1C.
