The School District of Le~ County, Florida - RFP # 6211
Document Imaging System

August 5, 2004

Network and Communications: As the LaserFiche DIMS uses standard network topologies and
telecommunications support, a specific and detailed drawing of the system is not required. The
LaserFiche DIMS will operate on SDLC's computer network, and provide remote access through Internet
TCP/IP After additional review of SDLC's network, a high-level schematic drawing with detailed
specifications and references to the DIMS components can be produced.

InteQration: The open architecture and published database schema of LaserFiche, combined with the
tools available In the LaserFiche Integration toolkit and R&S' Document Shuttle integration utility, simplify
the Integration of LaserFlche with other applications. Additionally the web-based API provided with
Webllnk and Web Access simplifies integrating LaserFiche seamlessly with any web application (and does
not require any client-side source code).

Document Capture: The DIMS provides a hierarchical folder system that aides in document organization.
Folders can be nested in up to 850 recursive folders/subfolders within the same folder/subfolder. The
DIMS can use document file names with up to 31 characters and supports automatic naming of
documents

The DIMS provides for Input of documents using the following methods: scanning, electroniC Imaging or
conversion from Windows programs (file to image processing), import of documents in their native
formats, 'briefcasing' of files from one LaserFiche database to another, and batch importing with images
and indexes in various files formats (delimited, fixed length, record column, and ODBC tables). The DIMS
supports scanning In bi-tonal (black and white), color, and gray scale formats. The DIMS uses standard
ISIS or TWAIN drivers for scanning. The proposed scanning systems provide for common functions such
as multiple scanning resolutions (dpi), different page sizes with automatic page size detection, and
automatic document feeders. As each page passes through the scanner, the Image can be presented to
the scanner operator for acceptance and/or quality control. When using a simplex scanner, the DIMS can
automatically collate a stack of double-sided documents Documents can be scanned in 'document' or
'batch' mode The DIMS and proposed scanning systems provide common Image enhancement
capabilities such as de-skew, de-speckle, blank page detection, Image rotation, auto length and width
detect.

Individual pages can be rescanned or added to an existing document. Image pages can be reordered
within a single document or added to another document. New documents can be created from existing
documents. For example, if an employee file was scanned in as a complete file, the document can be
separated Into sections using a thumbnail view of the record The eXisting records indexes WIll 'follow' the
new documents, certain fields like document type can be re-indexed to reflect the characteristics of the
new document.

R&S Integrated Products and Services, Inc.

Page 69

~;
.~
I:
