This streetscape and
wayfinding plan was prepared for the Community Redevelopment Agency as an accelerated element of the Omni Community
Redevelopment Agency Master Plan Update to support the opening of the district's center piece, the new Carnival Center for the
Performing Arts. Embraced by the Performing Arts Center and district business owners, the plan proposed a strategy to create a vibrant
public realm at street level that uses light as a wayfinding device and district identifier. The emphasis in the streetscape design is on the
establishment of a strong unifying rhythm created through the consistent use of repeated elements. This provides a powerful wayfinding
device that allows the streetscape to serve as a medium of connectivity throughout the district. The elements include paving material and
pattern. light fixtures and street trees. street furnishings and a wayfinding and identity system composed of Light Icons and Lightboxes -
vertical sculptural light fixtures and presentation apparatuses integrated with the streetscape that bring performances taking place inside
on to the street. Coordinated improvements by local businesses and the Carnival Center extend the design into the private realm.
creating a synergy between the Performing Arts Center and the surrounding neighborhood that reinforces its evolution into a vibrant.
identifiable walking district of media and entertainment uses.

Cost: $ 2 M
Size: 200 Acres

.

.....

(Jill

Wavfindinr; and dlSt(;,~ d"''1:;t.l f'lfOm~r.r_\

5tH'!'" fl:a'!,,'Iid< "nc' .o':"'m",rw

Fuildinc .lichring

.

STANDARD FORM 330

(1/2004) PAGE 1
