Activities will includ~
continued litter control and cleaning, sand renourishment and the re-establishment of dunes and
dune vegetation. The devdopment of new public park areas and beach walkways will improve
public access and use of the areas with an ultimate goal of providing residents and visitors access to
clean, scenic and expansive beaches.

..

..

..

-

-

Inland Waterways

..

-

In order to promote the value of the inland waterways, the City will continue to promote the
environmental quality, appearance and public access of these waterways. Efforts will be enhanced to
preserve and increase native shoreline vegetation. Any new developments along the waterways will
be designed as to improve, rather than detract from, the area's environmental and scenic value. The
City will also promote increased public access to and utilization of the inland waterways.

..

..

..

-

Neighborhoods

..

-

The quality of life and stability within the City's neighborhoods will be protected and enhanced
through a variety of planning and improvement efforts. The City's priorities include parks and
recreation, improved drainage, street and sidewalk maintenance and improvement, landscaping,
improved traffic control, and housing code enforcement.

..

-

-

Collins Avenue and Sunny Isles Beach Boulevard

..

..

In conjunction with the planned commercial redevelopment efforts the City in cooperation with ~e
State will initiate a number of improvement projects designed to improve the safety, livability, and
general appearance of these two primary roadways. Pedestrian and vehicular movement will · be
improved and better controlled through a coordinated reduction in speed limits, improved ingress
and egress, signage, controlled pedestrian crosswalks, improved sidewalks, street lighting, and the
provision of pedestrian amenities, including benches and transit shelters. The redesign and
construction will also include the placing, where feasible, of overhead utilities underground and the
landscaping of both public and private property.

..

-

..

..

-

..

Public Education and Public Health Systems

..

..

Since the City does not provide services or contain public education or health systems and facilities,
it is not required that these services be analyzed in accordance with Rule9J-5.016(1)(b) F.A.C.
However, with growth it is anticipated that a school focused on the ftrst few years of the formal
education may be necessary in Sunny Isles Beach in the future. Thus, the City will seek to foster the
development of such a facility as the population dynamics warrant.

..

..

-

.

The City will also seek to encourage the expansion of health services for its residents by the private
sector.

Sunny Isles Comprehensive Plan - Existing Conditions I Background Documents

31

-

-

..
