Automatic Tag Rcadcrs With the usc of fcdcral grant funds, The Sunny Islcs Bcach Police Dcpartmcnt would purchasc five (5) Mobilc Liccnsc Plate Rcadcrs to be strategically assigned to diffcrcnt shifts in the patrol division as well as the criminal investigativc division. Our objectivc would be to givc our officcrs a tcchnological advantage over thc criminals and providc as much covcragc throughout thc city with a mobilc liccnsc platc readcr allowing officcrs to capture and query up to 1500 licensc platcs a minute, targeting illicit vchiclcs and apprehcnding thc drivcrs. Within a short pcriod oftimc, our goal would be that the word would spread amongst thc criminal elemcnt that thc Sunny Isles Beach Policc Department has dcploycd scvcral mobile license platc rcadcrs around the clock thus deterring anyonc driving a stolen vchiclc from entcring thc City of Sunny Islcs Bcach to joyride or commit additional crimcs. Dcfibrillators With the usc of fcderal grant funds, Thc Sunny Isles Beach Policc Department would purchasc forty- eight (48) Automatic External Defibrillators (AED's) replacing thc oldcr obsolete units that arc currently assigned to some of the policc vehicles. Our objectivc would be to have enough Automatic External Defibrillators to assign one to cach officer rather thcn thc vchicle, eliminating thc possibility that an officer would rcspond to a cardiac medical cmcrgency and not havc an AED available. Being that the Sunny Isles Beach Policc Dcpartment participates in the take home vehicle program, where each officer drivcs their marked/unmarked vehicle homc with them, this would also bc placing forth- eight additionallifc saving tool on the street throughout thc surrounding citics and countics in the case of an cmcrgcncy. Advisory Radio Station With thc usc of federal grant funds, Thc Sunny Isles Beach Police Department would purchase an Advisory Radio Station. Our objective is to find a reliable method of disseminating critical information to our rcsidcnts and visitors in a timely manner. With thc implementation of an advisory radio station, it is the goal of thc police department to develop an early warning system to provide our rcsidcnts with information that may save livcs; Beach Conditions or closures, weather evcnts, evacuation notices, traffic hazards or advisories, etc. According to a query performed using thc NOAA Satellite and Information Scrvicc thcrc have bcen 492 weathcr related events since thc Sunny Isles Beach Police Departmcnt was cstablished in August of 1998.
