The elevated precast concrete deck is supported by cast-in-place concrete foundations, while the lower-level parking <br /> surface is a concrete slab-on-grade. From the deck's second level, a connecting pedestrian bridge provides access to the store. Precast concrete facades were <br /> detailed to match the store's exterior facade. The existing Target store on the site was demolished and a new store was <br /> built. The elevated 244 by 227 foot parking deck features precast concrete construction on shallow foundations; the lower level consists of concrete slab-on-grade. <br /> The upper level is accessed via an external express ramp. The deck has been designed to accommodate a potential future elevated level containing another 170 <br /> spaces. Functional design features include orienting the main elevator and stair towers to promote flow into a pedestrian plaza and providing cart storage below the <br /> external express ramp. As a subconsultant to Pearce, Brinkley, Cease, and Lee, Kimley-Horn designed an 800-space parking structure for UNC-Chapel Hill. <br /> The proposed parking deck will be located on Jackson Circle, adjacent to a planned medical office building near the intersection of New East Drive and Manning <br /> Drive. The parking deck will help meet the parking needs of the University's hospital staff. Kimley-Horn's services for this project include a parking study; <br /> environmental assessment; traffic, structural. and civil engineering; stormwater design; and landscape architecture. As prime consultant. Kimley-Horn was responsible for functional parking layout, traffic <br /> engineering. structural design. site civil engineering. revenue control, landscape architecture. and an environmental assessment of the site. Kimley-Horn conducted a thorough review of the parking deck that involved visual nondestructive testing of all exposed structural framing and <br /> electrical and mechanical systems. The results of this walk-through were documented in a report with recommendations for improvements and repairs. Based on <br /> the results, the City selected several improvements. During preparation of these repair documents, the City also requested that we modify the first floor tenant <br /> spaces to accommodate new lease arrangements and expand the tenant space to include additional retail units. The plans for this expansion have been completed <br /> and improvements were implemented in 2002. Cost: $1.8 million. <br />
