Haaf, R.L.A.
Landscape Architect
Registrations and Certifications:
• Registered Landscape Architect, State of Florida
Education:
• Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, University of Florida,
1991
Professional Experience:
Mr. Haaf, a Registered Landscape Architect, is respon-
sible for landscape architecture for both public and private
projects throughout South Florida including residential com-
munities, municipal parks, recreation facilities, and other
public projects such as airports and roadways.
Prior to joining the firm, he was a project landscape archi-
tect at another Florida multi - disciplinary firm specializing
in landscape architecture, ecological and civil engineering
services.
Relevant Project Experience:
• Sandy Ridge Sanctuary - A 38 -acre award - winning
environmentally sensitive land (ESL) park site in Coral
Springs. The project consists of the design for bicycle
and walking trails as well as interpretive signage, picnic
and play areas as well as native habitat restoration
plantings. A management plan was prepared for the
Florida Communities Trust (FCT) that provided approxi-
mately $2 million of grant support for this project.
• The Preserve - A zero -lot -line community in Coral
Springs, developed on a heavily wooded site. Preserva-
tion of native plant communities required detailed site
planning and earthwork design along with close field
coordination of the site and building contractors.
• Weston Athletic Park - A 102 -acre sports park in Weston
that includes fields for baseball, softball, soccer, bas-
ketball and roller hockey. This project required planning
of active recreation areas, playgrounds, building facili-
ties, parking, as well as pedestrian and vehicular cir-
culation.
• Increment III Wetland Mitigation - Mitigation design
for the final phase of Arvida's residential development
in Weston. The design for this project consists of
upland and aquatic habitat creation, restoration, and
enhancement of a 1,500 acre mitigation area. The
design required eradication of nuisance species as
well as earthwork, hydraulic and planting design for
the 1,500 acres.
• Weston Town Center -This 30 -acre mixed -use project
includes retail, office, residential and future
governmental services. Other key elements for Weston
Town Center include a lakefront linear park with band
shell and an interactive fountain. The design process
for this project included the preparation of Master Design
Guidelines for the entire project and all the varied uses.
In addition, this pedestrian oriented "soul" of the City
of Weston included a highly pedestrian- oriented central
retail area with themed landscaping and paving design.
The Ridges — This 530 -acre single family residential
community in Broward County was designed around
the centerpiece of a large recreational area and linear
park system. The key elements designed as part of
this community included an 11 -acre park with open
play areas, swimming facility, picnicking areas and an
interactive playground. The linear park was divided into
both passive and active uses that culminated at the
11 -acre recreational facility. In addition, large
archeological areas were present within the developed
area. These archeological sites were turned into
interpretive passive recreation areas in order to
enhance the sense of identity for the communities and
offer insight into the historical significance of these
areas. Community theming including signage, play
equipment and materials were also within the scope
of work for this project.
