SECTION 02319 <br />EXCAVATING, BACKFILLING, AND <br />COMPACTING FOR PAVING <br />PART 1 GENERAL <br />1.01 SECTION INCLUDES <br />All material, labor, equipment, tools and superintendence necessary to furnish and install excavating, <br />backfilling, and compacting for paving, complete in place. <br />1.02RELATED SECTIONS <br />1. Section - 01452 Material Testing <br />1.03 SITE CONDITIONS <br />Site is subject to frequent inundating rains, and may be subject to localized flooding and surface flows. <br />Site is subject to groundwater conditions which may impede the Work sequence. <br />PART2PRODUCTS <br />Not Included <br />PART 3 EXECUTION <br />3.01 PREPARATION <br />Clear, grub and strip site and prepare the site prior to commencement of grading operations <br />3.02LINE AND GRADE <br />All fill and excavation to be graded to subgrade (+ / - ) 0.10 foot. Contractor shall be responsible for <br />final grading, smoothing and final clean-up of all areas regardless of work performed by other <br />Contractors. Final limerock and subgrade grade shall be established by "Blue Top" method. <br />3.02EXCAVATION SPOIL <br />All spoil from excavation, except as may be determined by the Consultant to be unsuitable, shall first be <br />placed in the fill areas and the excess disposed of offiste. <br />3.03 BENCHING <br />Contractor shall tie all fills into undisturbed bank with benches of not less than 2H:1 V, with a minimum <br />H =2' -0. <br />3.04DEPTH OF FILL: <br />Contractor shall place fill in level, uniform layers. Each layer shall have a uniform loose thickness of not <br />more than ten (10) inches and /or a maximum compacted thickness of not more than six (6) inches, <br />whichever is less. <br />3.05MOISTURE CONTENT <br />Contractor shall prepare and bring each layer of fill to ( + / -) 3% of optimum moisture. Where soils are <br />placed in water the requirement for moisture control will be waived until such time as l' -0 foot of <br />comparative dry fill can be placed. At that time, moisture control and density control will begin again. <br />The testing laboratory shall determine soils type and required moisture content.
