All sheeting and bracing, not left in place, shall be carefully removed in <br />such a manner as not to endanger the construction or other structures, <br />utilities, existing piping, or property. All voids left or caused by <br />withdrawal of sheeting shall immediately be refilled with sand or ramming <br />with tools especially adapted to that purpose, by watering or otherwise as <br />may be directed. <br />D. The right of the Engineer to order sheeting and bracing left in place <br />shall not be construed as creating any obligation on his part to issue <br />such orders, and his failure to exercise his right to do so shall not <br />relieve the Contractor from liability for damages to persons or property <br />occurring from or upon the work occasioned by negligence or <br />otherwise, growing out of a failure on the part of the Contractor to <br />leave in place sufficient sheeting and bracing to prevent any caving or <br />moving of the ground. <br />1.04 JOB CONDITIONS <br />07/03 <br />A. The Contractor shall examine the site and review the available test <br />borings or undertake his own soil borings prior to submitting his bid, <br />taking into consideration all conditions that may affect his work. The <br />Owner and Engineer will not assume responsibility for variations of <br />sub -soil quality or conditions at locations other than places shown and <br />at the time the investigation was made. Boring log data is included in <br />the specifications in Document 00200. <br />B. Existing Utilities: Locate existing underground utilities in the areas of <br />work. If utilities are to remain in place, provide adequate means of <br />protection during earthwork operations. <br />1. Should uncharted, or incorrectly charted, piping or other utilities <br />be encountered during excavation, consult the Engineer and the <br />Owner of such piping or utility immediately for directions. <br />2. Cooperate with Owner and utility companies in keeping <br />respective services and facilities in operation. Repair damaged <br />utilities to satisfaction of utility owner. <br />3. Demolish and completely remove from site existing underground <br />utilities indicated on the drawings to be removed. <br />C. Protection of Persons and Property: Barricade open excavations <br />occurring as part of this work and post with warning lights. Operate <br />warning lights as recommended by authorities having jurisdiction. <br />1. Protect structures, utilities, sidewalks, pavements, and other <br />facilities from damage caused by settlement, lateral movement, <br />undermining, washout and other hazards created by earthwork <br />operations. <br />02221 -2 03- 4138.A <br />
