C� <br />' 1.05 SUBMITTALS <br />A. The Contractor shall furnish the Engineer, for approval, a <br />' representative sample of fill material obtained from on site sources <br />weighing approximately 50 pounds, at least ten calendar days prior to <br />the date of anticipated use of such material. <br />B. For each material obtained from other than on site sources, the <br />Contractor shall notify the Engineer of the source of the material and <br />shall furnish the Engineer, for approval, a representative sample <br />weighing approximately 50 pounds, at least ten calendar days prior to <br />the date of anticipated use of such material. <br />PART 2 - PRODUCTS <br />2.01 MATERIALS <br />1 07/03 <br />A. General: <br />1. Materials for use as base, fill and backfill shall be described <br />below: <br />a. Satisfactory soil materials are defined as those complying <br />with American Association of State Highway and <br />Transportation Officials ( AASHTO) M -145, soil <br />classification Groups A -1, A -2 -4, A -2 -5, and A -3. <br />b. Unsatisfactory soil materials are those defined in <br />AASHTO M -145 soil classification Groups A -2 -6, A -2 -7, <br />A -4, A -5, A -6, and A -7 along with peat and other highly <br />organic soils. <br />B. Structural Fill: <br />1. Structural fill material shall be a well graded, suitable soil <br />material consisting of a minimum of 60 percent clean medium <br />fine grain sized quartz sand, free of organic, deleterious and /or <br />compressible percent clean medium fine grain sized quartz sand, <br />free of organic, deleterious and /or compressed material. Rock in <br />excess of 2 1/2 inches in diameter shall not be used in the fill <br />material. Structural fill shall not contain hardpan, stones, rocks, <br />cobbles or other similar materials. <br />C. Common Fill: <br />1. Common fill material shall be satisfactory soil material <br />containing no more than 20 percent by weight finer than No. <br />200 mesh sieve. It shall be free from organic matter, muck, <br />marl, and rock exceeding 2 1/2 inches in diameter. Common fill <br />02221 -3 03- 4138.A <br />
