2. Tying and Cross - bracing: <br />a. For trees over 4 inch caliper: <br />07/03 02490 -11 03- 4138.A <br />(1) Stake and tie firmly with guy wire. <br />(2) Separate guy wire from bark by hose section. <br />b. For trees under 4 inches in caliper: <br />(1) Nail cross -brace between stakes. <br />(2) Tie tree to cross -brace guy wire. <br />(3) Separate guy wire from bark by hose section. <br />B. <br />Stake palm trees as shown. Contractor shall have the option to <br />deepen the burial of Sabal Palmetto and Washingtonia Robusta for <br />stabilization in lieu of staking. (Note: The clear trunk height shall be <br />required as specified on plans after installation. The Contractor shall <br />still be responsible for and guarantee the installation against toppling <br />and be responsible for any and all damage incurred to toppling over.) <br />3.09 PRUNING <br />A. <br />Prune minimum necessary to remove injured twigs and branches, <br />deadwood, and suckers. Pruning shall be done with regard to natural <br />form of plant material or as directed by the landscape Architect. <br />1. Do not prune prior to delivery to site. <br />Note: Pruning is required for collected palms and trees per <br />"Grades and Standards for Nursery Plants Part II, Palms and <br />Trees" and Section 02481. <br />B. <br />All cuts one inch diameter or larger made during pruning of any plant <br />material shall be painted with commercial grade sealant as approved <br />and directed by Landscape Architect. <br />C. <br />Pruning cuts shall be monitored to ensure proper healing and to <br />prevent insect /disease infestation. <br />D. <br />Landscape Contractor shall perform all specialized shearing and or <br />pruning as directed by the Landscape Architect and as shown on the <br />drawings at no additional cost to the Owner. <br />3.10 MAINTENANCE <br />A. <br />General: <br />1. Begin maintenance immediately after each item is planted and <br />continue until final inspection and acceptance. <br />2. Maintain a health growing condition by pruning, watering, <br />cultivating, weeding, mowing, mulching, tightening, and <br />repairing of guys, resetting plants to proper grades or upright <br />position, restoration of plant saucer, and furnishing and applying <br />such sprays as necessary to keep planting free of insects and <br />diseases. <br />3. The root system of plants shall be watered at such intervals as <br />will keep the surrounding soil in best condition for promotion of <br />root growth and plant life. <br />4. Keep planting saucers and beds free of weeds, grass and other <br />' <br />undesired vegetation growth. <br />07/03 02490 -11 03- 4138.A <br />
