V. USE OF PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT . <br />There are numerous personal safety measures you can take to ward off the possiblities of injury <br />and to protect yourself. <br />EYE PROTECTION - glasses /goggles are a requirement when working in areas <br />where dust particles or foreign matter is present, and when using chemicals <br />Know the location of eye wash station. Keep your hands away from eyes. Do NOT try <br />to remove the foreign matter yourself. <br />HAND PROTECTION - gloves are to be worn at all times when cleaning restrooms <br />or when there is a potential hand or finger danger. Medical waste must not be handled <br />unless gloves are worn. <br />HEAD PROTECTION - hard hats are a requirement when working in an area of <br />possible overhead danger. <br />FOOT PROTECTION - while safety shoes are often required in contruction areas <br />and while performing certain landscape duties, sandals, open toed shoes, shoes with, <br />holes, and high heel shoes are not allowed while performing your duties. <br />HEARING PROTECTION - ear plugs and /or ear muffs are required in all areas so <br />designated. In addition ear protection is to be worn while operating propane buffers, gas <br />blowers and trimmers, battery and propane powered riding sweepers and scrubbers. <br />RESPIRATORY PROTECTION - disposable dust masks may be required <br />whenever there is a slight exposure to dust particles. Respirators may be required when <br />dust is extreme, gas and vapors are present, or oxygen is deficient. Respirators require <br />very specific training. <br />SUPERVISORS MUST ENSURE EMPLOYEES ARE INSTRIJCTED/TRAINED ON THE <br />ABOVE AND DOCUMENTED ON THE TRAINING CHECKLIST. <br />SUPERVISORS MUST REVIEW MSDS'S TO DETERMINE PPE REQUIREMENT. <br />SUPERVISORS MUST WALK THROUGH THEIR AREAS TO ASSESS HAZARDS AND <br />DETERMINE IF ADDITIONAL PPE IS REQUIRED. <br />• <br />10 <br />
