Prevention
of occupational induced injuries and illnesses is of such consequence that it is given
over operational productivity. To the greatest degree possible, management will pro-
vide all mechanical and physical protection required for personal safety and health on
all of our building systems and services.

The foundation of our safety program consists of three fundamentals: Training, Incen-
tives and Discipline.
Training Being the most important, all of our Superintendents are:

. OSHA 10/30 hour trained
. Competent Person-Fall Protection
. Competent Person-Excavations
. Competent Person-Scaffolding
. Long time employees promoted from
Incentives include everyone from our hourly workers to top management. Everyone is
cdmpensated for going that extra mile. That puts us an extra mile ahead of our compe-
tition.
.

Discipline is equally important to us. We do not harvest "bad apples". We first allow
everyone the opportunity to be trained properly. Before they leave the ground, they
know the proper method of fall protection and will use it 100% of the time. We do not
take chances with our employees' lives or our clients reputation.

Are we~ as good as we say we are? Despite the dangerous nature of our business,
our Experience Modification Rate is a remarkable 0.78, which is far below the 1.00
baseline fdr....the industry. Our lost workday case rate averages 0.98 in comparison
with the Construction Industry National Average of 4.00 and our recordable rate aver-
ages 8.47 in c6rt;1parison with the Construction Industry National Average of 8.70. Our
numbers say that when it comes to safety, Southern Pan Services is a Pro-active com-
pany that is conderned with the safety and health needs of not only our employees but
our clients as w~lI.
I

It is very important to us that when we have an on the job injury that we keep a good
relationship and 'communication with the injured employee and the treating physi-
cians. This is why we have a full time person in the Risk Management department
that tracks the recovery progress of every injured employee. We also maintain a very
aggressive light ~uty program that allows the employee to work according to the re-
strictions that have been given by the physician until the employee is able to return to
I
full duty work.

I-ICB':
~11UMfS
'c .______

SpS
.......T........___.......,.,..
_._"'-'T......_...,~
