<br />City of Sunny Isles Beach: Special Inspection Services <br />RFO No. 11-07-11 <br /> <br />C CM Proiect #1 - Sunnv Isles Bridqe Rehabilitation, North Miami Beach, FL <br /> <br />URS was retained by the Florida Department of Transportation to <br />provide mechanical and electrical specialty Construction <br />Engineering and Inspection services for the rehabilitation of the <br />Sunny Isles Bridge in North Miami Beach, Florida. The Sunny Isles <br />Bridge is a four leaf Hopkins trunnion bascule bridge utilizing floor <br />mounted machinery. The rehabilitation project included significant <br />mechanical and electrical work. <br /> <br />Mechanical work included: removal of the existing trunnion <br />bearings and field machining of the trunnions to_meet the <br />requirements for installation of spherical roller bearings; installation <br />of spherical roller bearings, pillow blocks and support pedestals; and complete replacement of the floor <br />mounted machinery. Replacement machinery included dual drive trains with electronic torque sharing <br />inherent to the drive setup. Each drive train consisted of a wound-rotor motor driving a planetary speed <br />reducers coupled to a rack pinion mating with a span mounted rack. Electrical work included: the <br />replacement of the main drive cabinet; replacement of the control console; replacement of the existing drum <br />controller and equipment with new SCR drives with new motors and brakes; and replacement of all <br />associated conduit and wiring. Lightning protection and intercom systems were newly installed on the bridge. <br /> <br /> <br />c <br /> <br />Services included extensive shop testing and inspections related to the motor and drive operation and to the <br />field machining of the trunnions. Work included a shop mock-up of the field machining conditions. Field <br />inspection addressed the installation of all new and replacement components and start-up and testing <br />functions for all operating and miscellaneous bridge equipment.
