The project is located in St. Augustine, Florida, which holds the title as the oldest
city in the U.S. The bridge, which has two lion statues placed at the west end, connects the heart of St.
Augustine to Anastasia Island over the Matanzas River. It has served the public since 1927 and is designated
as a National Historic Landmark. The original bridge was designed by Greiner Engineering, which became
part of URS in 1996.

URS Construction Services has managed the project for the five years of construction, which began in 2005.
The project entails the construction and removal of a temporary vertical lift span, partial demolition and
rehabilitation of the existing rolling-lift bascule span and approaches, new drainage, replacement of handrails,
light poles and light fixtures with elements similar to the
original elements from 1927, and landscaping, including a
new gateway park on east approach, to beautify the area
and return it to a historically correct configuration.

Owner: FOOT District II
URS Role: Construction program management
Construction Engineering and
Inspection
Project Type: Bridge Rehabilitation
Total Construction Value: $58 Million
Project Start: 2005
Completion: 2010

2-7 I P '" .~ E

URS
