FL

c

URS provided Construction Management and complete Design Services for the Royal Park Bridge which
is a signature project for the Florida Department of Transportation. Located over the Intracoastal Waterway,
this twin-double leaf bascule bridge connects the City of West Palm Beach and the Town of Palm Beach.
The replacement of this bridge became an emergency project when, during a scour repair project, it was
discovered that Marine Borers had eaten through the wood piling supporting the bridge. The project has a
$50.8 million dollar construction cost and the construction contract was for 1100 days. The design team for
the project plans was led by URS/E.C. Driver and Associates (A subsidiary of URS Corporation).

In addition to the bascule bridge replacement and new bascule spans, this project included the design and
construction of a parallel, variable depth, arched, driven pile supported, cast-in-place segmental approach
spans that are just over 1,000 feet in length. Also included are; park improvements on both ends of the
bridge, a pedestrian bridge under the first segmental s an and several blocks of urban roadwa
reconstruction.

Owner: FDOT District IV

URS Corporation provided all bridge CEI services
during the construction phase of the project.
