Summary Minutes: Regular City Commission Meeting December 15, 2016 City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida <br />and available to all residents as well as their guests, most of who are Sunny Isles Beach <br />residents who live in or around the complex. He recommends that the City designate <br />$10,000 of funds budgeted as a donation for the purpose of financial assistance for these <br />programs. We are always doing things to try to help our seniors as you know, and so our <br />donation will go a long way to directly serve our residents most in need. The funds will be <br />used to purchase and install computers for a computer lab along with instruction classes on <br />their use, expansion of the English Citizenship classes, senior exercise and yoga classes, and <br />expansion of the in-house hot lunch program to offer a daily hot meal to more residents. He <br />noted Monseigneur Wielunski actually lives in Marian Towers, he is a visiting Monseigneur. <br />Public Speakers: None <br />Commissioner Aelion said the purchase of laptops and computers to train them is a very <br />good program, and is a very good effort to ease their learning of the computers. Mayor <br />Scholl said the program is there but a lot of the folks didn't know about it, the folks <br />immediately around Marian Towers understood what was out there. Commissioner Goldman <br />is very pleased to see the support. She is a proponent and advocate for seniors programming, <br />expansive activities, having a stationery senior center while the City is working out the terms <br />of the government annex, to have that or an alternative site. We need to do everything that is <br />within our means to support all of the enhanced services and activities of our senior <br />population. She commended the Mayor and the Commission for this initiative. <br />Commissioner Svechin moved and Commissioner Goldman seconded a motion to approve <br />the resolution. Resolution No. 2016-2642 was adopted by a voice vote of 5-0 in favor. <br />1011. A Resolution of the City Commission of the City of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, Approving <br />an In -Kind Donation to the Social Citizens of Southeast Florida for Use of the <br />Community Center at Pelican Community Park on January 7, 2017; Authorizing the <br />City Manager to Do All Things Necessary to Effectuate the Terms of this Resolution; <br />Providing for an Effective Date. <br />Action: City Clerk Hines read the title, and Cultural and Community Services Assistant <br />Director Sylvia Flores reported this is a request from the Social Citizens to use the Park's <br />multi-purpose room for their event. The in-kind donation is essentially the rental fees which <br />would have been associated with using that room, as well as some support services that they <br />are requesting from the facility's staff. <br />Public Speakers: None <br />Commissioner Goldman moved and Commissioner Svechin seconded a motion to approve <br />the resolution.
