Energize Your Vending! <br />Initiating a Community -Wide <br />Campaign <br />If an agency, organization or coalition in your community can lead the <br />way to adopting Fit PickTM community -wide, then this Guide is for you! Not <br />only is it possible to implement Fit P!ckTM in more than one organization at <br />a time, doing so can offer several advantages: <br />• It reduces repetition of effort. <br />• It supports increased visibility and program recognition. Familiarity <br />leads to increased influence with consumers and results in increased <br />sales. <br />• It reduces the potential for confusion and errors on the part of vendors <br />and their route drivers that would result if they had to service multiple <br />different programs in the same geography. <br />• It leads organizations to support one another and share lessons <br />learned. <br />• It creates the demand for Fit PickTM products that local food <br />distributors need in order to dedicate additional "shelf space" to a <br />wider variety of qualified products. <br />• It motivates vending operators to understand the program and <br />adhere to its guidelines. The more frequently Fit PickTM is implemented, <br />the easier it becomes! <br />• It leads to collaborative problem solving, breaking down barriers and <br />creating partnerships for understanding. <br />• It increases consumer demand for Fit PickT"' <br />A community -wide initiative to adopt Fit Pick TM may be best achieved <br />through a collaborative effort. In Clark County, Washington the <br />collaborative involvement of area worksites, schools, vending operators <br />and food distributors was facilitated by Community Choices and the Steps <br />to a Healthier Clark County Initiative. (See the sections on Background & <br />Acknowledgements in this Guide for more information) <br />In your community, the igniting force for this type of initiative could come <br />from a medical center, the local YMCA, the Public Health department, or <br />a food policy council.
