SU N�NY,JEr = <br /> ° City of Sunny Isles Beach <br /> Personnel Policy and Procedure <br /> Policy Name SEVERANCE PAY <br /> Policy Number 304:1 <br /> Effective Date 10/1/04 <br /> Revision Date(s) 6/1/05; 12/1/05; 5/18/17 <br /> Prepared By, Title Human Resources Director <br /> Approved By, Title City Manager <br /> PURPOSE: <br /> Severance pay is intended to provide extra economic help to certain terminated <br /> employees while they adjust to their job loss. <br /> POLICY: <br /> It is the policy of the City that severance pay may be granted to terminated employees <br /> after six (6) months of service with the City and under certain limited circumstances. The <br /> City will establish the terms for severance pay in writing and communicate these terms to <br /> employees as required by law. The City retains the right to amend or terminate its <br /> severance pay plan at any time. This policy does not apply to severance pay agreements <br /> that have been approved by the City Commission or that have been approved by the City <br /> Manager and City Attorney prior to the effective date of this policy. <br /> ELIGIBILITY: <br /> All regular appointment full time and part-time (not intermittent) City employees except as <br /> noted above. <br /> PROCEDURE: <br /> 1) The Human Resources Department is responsible for administering this policy and <br /> will handle any employee claims or complaints. The City Attorney is responsible for <br /> determining and preparing the details of any severance pay agreement as authorized <br /> by this policy or as directed by the City Commission or the City Manager. <br /> 2) Employees may be considered eligible for severance pay if they have worked as a <br /> regular appointment employee for at least six (6) months and are terminated because <br /> of: <br /> a) A permanent reduction in force (unless the employee refuses a transfer <br /> recommended by the City); or <br /> CODING: Words stricken are deletions,words underlined are additions. <br /> 304-1 Severance Pay Page 1 of 2 <br /> 64 <br />
