3. Units shall have full mortar coverage of the face shells in both the horizontal and <br />vertical joints. <br /> <br />4. Point joints solid with mortar on both sides and wall. <br /> <br />5. Firmly compact joints in exposed work, with a pointing tool when partially set. <br /> <br />3.06 MORTARING <br /> <br />A. Lay courses in a full bed of mortar. <br /> <br />1. Lay units with mortar applied to face shell of block previously laid as well as to <br />block to be laid to insure well filled joints. <br /> <br />B. Join new masonry to existing or partially set work by first cleaning loose mortar and <br />joints. <br /> <br />1. When it is necessary to stop a horizontal run, rack back one-half (1/2) block <br />length in each course; toothing shall not be permitted. <br /> <br />C. Strike joints flush in block in unexposed spaces. <br /> <br />1. Strike joints of block exposed in the finished work and tool when partially set <br />with a glass or steel, twenty-four (24) inch long tool. <br /> <br />2. Use a tool approximately twice the size of the joint. <br /> <br />D. Fill solidly hollow metal frames, mullions and spaces around built-in items with <br />grout. <br /> <br />E. Provide eight (8) inch minimum of solid end bearing the full height of wall for lintels. <br /> <br />F. Cut and patch finished masonry to accommodate work of other trades in a manner <br />that will not damage or mar appearance of adjoining masonry. <br /> <br />G. Point holes in masonry. <br /> <br />1. Cut out and point up defective joints. <br /> <br />3.07 CONTROL JOINTS <br /> <br />A. Install control joints as detailed and located as shown in the Drawings. <br /> <br />B.
