3.09 PIPE SUPPORT SPACING <br /> <br />A. The distance between supports for each size of pipe shall not exceed those <br />listed in the table below. <br /> <br />Nominal Pipe <br />Size Metallic Piping <br />Plastic, <br />Fiberglass, and <br />Copper Piping <br />O.D. If the pipe size to be supported is not listed in the schedule, the next smaller <br />nominal pipe size spacing shall be used. <br /> <br />2. There shall be a minimum of one support per laying length of pipe on <br />uninterrupted horizontal runs. <br /> <br />3. This support shall be placed within one (1) foot of the joint. <br /> <br />4. If the pipe manufacturer recommends a smaller spacing interval than <br />specified herein, then the manufacturer's spacing shall be used. <br /> <br />3.10 PIPE HANGERS AND HANGER RODS <br /> <br />A. Where pipe hangers are used, they shall be of the clevis or friction clamp type, <br />except where there is a longitudinal movement due to temperature changes. <br /> <br />1. Pipe hangers shall be capable of supporting the pipe in all conditions of <br />operation. <br /> <br />2. They shall allow free expansion and contraction of the piping, and prevent <br />excessive stress resulting from transferred weight being induced into the <br />pipe or connected equipment. <br /> <br />B. Hangers shall be designed so that they cannot become disengaged by <br />movements of the supported pipe. <br /> <br />1. Lock nuts shall be used on hangers. <br /> <br />2.
