3.20 EXISTING UTILITIES <br /> <br />A. Pipelines shall be installed using due care with regard to existing utilities. <br /> <br />1. Existing utilities are shown from best available as-built data and must be <br />located by the CONTRACTOR (“potholed”) prior to construction. <br /> <br />B. Reliance by the CONTRACTOR on existing utility locations shown on the <br />drawings is not sufficient. <br /> <br />1. Locate existing utilities prior to construction. <br /> <br />3.21 VALVE BOXES <br /> <br />A. Valve boxes, manholes, and electrical boxes, which are proposed or existing, <br />and are effected by the proposed work, shall be raised to the elevation of the <br />final grading. <br /> <br />1. This shall include additional materials as required on existing items. <br /> <br />B. Valve boxes shall be installed over each outside, buried valve, unless otherwise <br />indicated. <br />1. Valve boxes shall be centered over the valve. <br /> <br />2. Fill shall be carefully tamped around each valve box to a distance of 4 feet <br />on all sides, or to undisturbed trench face if less than 4 feet. <br /> <br />3.22 DEPTH OF COVER <br /> <br />A. Ductile iron pipe shall receive 30 inches minimum cover with approved trench <br />and backfilling techniques. <br /> <br />B.
