<br />There shall be NO rock in contact with PVC pipe. The sub-contractor shall use backfilling <br />equipment that will tamp backfill to its original density. He shall barricade or light the <br />excavation to prevent hazards to the public. Objectionable materials such as old concrete, <br />asphalt, lime rock and bricks that are encountered during working operations, shall be <br />removed from the project by the sub-contractor. <br /> <br />B. PVC Pipe Assembly: <br /> <br />1. All PVC pipe shall be cut to the proper length prior to assembly. The cut shall be neat <br />and square, 90 degrees to the axis of the pipe. Prior to assembly, the cut end shall be de- <br />burred. The fitting and pipe end shall both be cleaned with a PVC Etch Primer. This <br />primer shall have a purple tint to aid in visual inspection. <br /> <br />2. A thin even flow coat of slow drying, heavy duty PVC solvent/glue shall be applied to <br />both the inside of the fitting and the pipe-mating surface. <br /> <br />3. The pipe shall be inserted into the fitting until it bottoms, and then given quarter turn to <br />insure proper sealing. The pipe and fittings shall be out of service during the curing time <br />as recommended by the manufacturer or 24 hours, whichever is longer. The finished <br />joint shall be watertight and shall have strength equal to or greater than that of the pipe <br />being joined. The direct tapping of PVC pipe or fittings shall not be permitted. <br /> <br />C. Irrigation Control Wire: See irrigation specifications on irrigation plans. <br /> <br />D. Cleaning and Pressure Testing: <br /> <br />1. After all PVC assembly is complete and prior to the installation of the sprinkler heads, <br />the lines shall be flushed to insure that no rock, sand or other foreign material remains <br />in the lines. <br /> <br />2. The sprinkler mains shall be filled with water and all outlets shall be capped and <br />plugged. The main shall be pressurized to 100 PSI for a minimum of 24 hours. No <br />section of the main will be approved if the pressure drops by more than 10% at the end <br />of the 24-hour period. Leaks shall be repaired immediately and the system shall be <br />retested until found satisfactory. Contractor is responsible to provide an oil filled gauge <br />for Pressure testing for Final Acceptance. <br /> <br />E. Modifications Due to Field Conditions: Conditions that occur on the site that cause the <br />system to be modified, shall be presented as shop drawings by the sub-contractor and <br />approved by the Design Consultant prior to construction. <br /> <br />F. Power feed to the time clock and pump station if the General Contractor shall provide <br />present. The Irrigation Contractor shall be responsible for activating/energizing controller <br />and pump station if present. Precise voltage and Phases shall be coordinated before <br />installation. All wires into and out of the time clock shall be in conduit. <br /> <br />G.
