Promoting distinctive, diverse and high quality artwork that will create a sense of <br /> place and contribute to the enrichment of the lives of citizens <br /> 7. Identifying the City's own artist community. <br /> 8. Creating a curated inventory of public art. <br /> 9. Seeking partnerships and collaborative opportunities for artists and citizens alike <br /> to work and create art. <br /> 10.Stimulating dialogue and interest about issues raised by unique art <br /> Public Art and the Process for Selection. <br /> For our purposes, public art may be defined as a tangible, unique creation exhibiting the <br /> highest quality of skill and aesthetic principles and may include paintings, murals, <br /> sculptures, stained glass, collages or mosaics, monuments, fountains, integrated <br /> architectural or landscape architectural work; digital or other media, whether temporary <br /> or permanent. Depending on the philosophy developed by the City, public art might <br /> involve "performance" that furthers the goals of this program and that is not covered by <br /> the Cultural and Community Services Department. Public art shall not include <br /> reproductions, mass produced art, decorative/ornamental art unless specifically <br /> commissioned by the City. Public Art will include any art placed in a public space, <br /> including that art required by the Art in Public Places Ordinance (Chapter 104,Code of <br /> the City of Sunny Isles Beach.) <br /> The process for selection can be manifold. Usually, there is an administrative decision <br /> to have a temporary or permanent piece of art created or to purchase a piece of art from <br /> an existing inventory. It could be stand alone or part of a grouping. It could include a <br /> decision on the re-location of existing art. Artist selection can be through direct <br /> selection or competition, in which case a call for proposals for the creation of the art <br /> piece will be issued. With the creation of this Program, the responses will be evaluated <br /> by a Public Arts Advisory Committee, described below. The Committee, on any given <br /> project, will apply a set of guidelines as adopted, and as may be amended by the <br /> PAAC, to both the selection as well as siting of any art placed in a public space, that is <br /> art that will be viewed by the public whether as part of a private development project or <br /> in a space owned by the City. <br /> For art that is included by a private entity as part of a development project in compliance <br /> with the City's Art in Public Places Ordinance, the piece shall be submitted to the PAAC <br /> committee for review and recommendation to the City Commission any time after <br /> approval of the project by the Commission but in no event later than the issuance of a <br /> TCO.
