The sub base
shall be roll tested to find "soft spots", compacted and rolled to as close as possible to a 95% proctor
density and be sloped 0.5% - 1% from the centerline "ridge" of the playing field towards both sidelines.
NOTE: The ridge on baseball and softball fields shall run from home plate, through second base and out
to centerfield.
CONCRETE CURBING / NAILER — A trench shall be excavated around the perimeter of the playing field
to accommodate a wide x 1 2" deep concrete curb. After a minimum 2-day cure time, a pressure treated (PT) nailer board shall be secured
to the concrete curb using mechanical fasteners (Ramset, or equivalent). The fasteners shall be spaced on
24" centers. The fasteners nearest to the ends of the nailers shall be no more than 6" from the end.
PERIMETER TRENCH (Collector Drain) —The perimeter trench shall be installed around the field, adjacent to
the inside edge of the concrete curb. The trench shall be approximately 2' wide at the top, tapering down
to an adequate size that will accommodate a 010" (min) pipe. The depth of the trench shall be sufficient
to allow the pipe to be properly sloped (0.25% minimum) to ensure a positive outflow of water.
®
Recreational Design & Construction, Inc.
