APPROACH/METHODOLOGY I Q
i II
■
GEOTEXTILE (Trench) —The first item installed in the perimeter trench shall be a non-woven geotextile fabric
Mirafi® 140N (as manufactured by TenCate), or equivalent. The geotextile fabric shall cover the nailer
board, the concrete curb, the bottom and both sides of the trench and extend onto the adjacent sub-grade
of the field by a minimum of 12".
GEOTEXTILE (Main Field) — The first item installed on the field shall be a non-woven geotextile filter fabric.
Adjacent sections of geotextile shall be overlapped 15"-18" and shingled in the direction of the slope of
the field. The geotextile shall cover the entire field.
TRENCH PIPE — There shall be a 010" (minimum) High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) perforated pipe at the
bottom of the trench for conducting water runoff from the field to a local water management system. The
entire length of the trench pipe shall be wrapped in a fabric "sock".
TILED DRAINFIELD — 1" x 12" Composite flat drain pipe shall be laid out on the geotextile fabric on the
body of the field in a herringbone patter. The rows of flat panel pipe shall be set at a 45° angles extend-
ing from the ridge of the field to the trenches and connected directly to the perforated pipe in the trenches.
The rows of flat drain pipe shall be spaced on 15' centers. The ends of the flat drain at the ridge of the
field shall be capped.
OUTLET DRAIN CONNECTION —There shall be an outlet pipe that connects the trench pipe to a local water
management system, or an existing outflow pipe. The length and depth of the outlet drain connection pipe
® shall be as required per installation. The outlet pipe shall be a 010" (Minimum) solid schedule 40 PVC
pipe.
STONE BASE (Bottom Layer) — The first stone to be installed in the trenches shall be 3/4" (#56 or#57)
Crushed / Clean / Washed Road Stone. The trench stone should be installed in 3" lifts and compacted to
a 95% proctor. When the trenches are filled up to the level of the sub-base of the main field, four more
inches (min) of the same stone shall be added over the trenches and the entire surface of the playing field.
All of this shall be compacted to a 95% proctor. This layer shall be top-graded at a 0.5%-1.0% from the
center ridge of the field. After the first layer of stone meets these criteria, the second layer can be installed.
STONE BASE (Top Layer) — The top 2" (max) of stone over the trench shall be 1/4-3/8 CLEAN, WASHED,
CRUSHED STONE and compacted to 95% proctor.
It is most important that the top surface of the second layer is as flat as possible. This layer is where the
base work shall be fine-tuned to ensure a uniform planar surface for the playing field. The tolerance for the
finished top surface of this layer of base shall be a 1/4 inch in ten feet. An electronic or staked grade grid,
of not more than 25' separation will be used, to establish finished grade of the aggregate base, before
installing the synthetic grass. The aggregate base should not deviate from specified finish grade by more
than V/4" in ten feet.
0
Recreational Design & Construction, Inc. I RFP NO. 12-10-03 033
