POINT OF CONTACT NAME
Ross Dickerson, Hillsborough County
c. POINT OF CONTACT TELEPHONE NUMBER
(727) 452-1389
24. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (Include scope, size, and cost)

The Apollo Beach Nature Presereve is located at the north end of
Apollo Beach in Tampa Bay, Hillsborough County, Florida. The
north end of the Island has been experiencing chronic erosion
following the construction of revetments along much of the
private properties south of the preserve. A revetment was
installed by the County on a portion of the property in 2010 but
was in need of rebuilding and was transferring the erosion
further north on the preserve. Humiston & Moore Engineers was
selected as part of the Hillsborough County Project Team for the Apollo Beach Nature Preserve Shoreline Restoration Project led by
Flores Construction Co. The project construction started in December 2014 and includes 7 breakwaters and an innovative terminal T-
groin to reduce sand losses to the navigation channel and protect the recreational beach area. The project also includes restoration
of the upland revetment and placement of beach fill, dune restoration, and seagrass mitigation. Humiston & Moore Engineers
provided construction coordination for maintenance dredging of inland channels. This included the construction of an upland onsite
containment basin for dewatering purposes. This prevented a direct pump to the beach where sparse seagrass beds were located
which would not be permitted. After the dewatering efforts, the sand was then trucked to the beach for placement.

Project Tasks Included:
Regional Model study
Sand Compatibility Analysis
Inlet and Nearshore Processes Modeling
Long-term Inlet Evolution Modeling
Wave and sediment transport modeling
Analysis of erosion control alternatives
Construction Observation

Scope Included:
Alternatives Analysis
Design and Permitting
Contract Documents & Specifications
Construction Observation
Project Monitoring

25.
