Fort Drum – South Post Roads
Fort Drum, New York
Duration of Contract: 2011 - 2013

Erdman Anthony provided design and construction phase
support services for the reconstruction and utility
enhancements of 6,975 feet of existing streets in the 700, 800
and 900 area of the Fort Drum Military Base, Fort Drum, New
York.

The project included utility layout and design for electric
distribution improvements and a new telecommunications
system. These efforts included installation of underground
conduit facilities, building connections and various
appurtenances for both the electrical and telecommunication
systems. These efforts were completed in order to move key
facilities underground from their previous above ground
locations. This utility design work posed a significant challenge
since existing water, sanitary sewer, gas and other buried
telecommunications infrastructure was present throughout
the project limits. The electrical and telecommunications
design also had to facilitate switch-over with little or no
service interruptions. Detailed design profiles were prepared for the new buried tele-communications
in order to assure compliance with US Army Installation Information Infrastructure Architecture (I3A).
Extensive watermain layout, profile and details for new and relocated water distribution infrastructure
was also completed. This effort included new hydrants and service connections to existing buildings.
Work also included preparation of a report and application necessary for NYS Department of Health
approval of the water improvement plans and specifications.
The road reconstruction design provided full depth reconstruction of existing deteriorated concrete
pavement with a multi-course asphalt pavement on a minimum 12-inch granular subbase material. The
reconstruction also included the addition of sidewalks along 70% of the project, new signing and
pavement markings; and a detailed maintenance and protection of traffic plan to maintain access to all
the existing military facilities present in the project area,

The scope of our design services included: Preparation of a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan,
Construction staging / Maintenance and Protection of Traffic Plans, periodic site visits, responses to
Request for information and reparation of an As-built record plan.
