CGA was retained by the City of West Palm Beach to provide all of the civil engineering and landscape architecture services for its ambitious Tamarind Avenue Streetscape Project. This twophase project will add bicycle and pedestrian improvements as well as drainage and utility improvements to 0.7 miles of Tamarind Avenue in the City of West Palm Beach. The streetscape improvements are LAP funded (the LAP Phase). The underground utility improvements are funded by the Town (the Utility Phase).
The project was split into two construction contracts to facilitate the LAP funding schedule. The first project to be constructed will be the underground improvements which include the replacement of 90 year old clay drainage pipes, installation a new 24” water main on 7th Street, and the replacement of 90 year old shallow clay sewer mains. This project will also remove the 90 year old concrete base below the roadway which was originally constructed in concrete in 1927 and then overlaid with asphalt over the years to be between 4 and 11 inches thick. The 90 year old cracks in the concrete have reflected in the roadway surface and this will all be replaced.
The LAP Phase includes an overlay of the 0.7 mile of roadway, the addition of sharrow bicycle accommodation, concrete sidewalks on both sides of the roadway, decorative pavement features, pedestrian crossings, on-street parking, signing and pavement marking layout and improvements to the turn lanes at both ends of the project. Other improvements included extensive landscaping, pedestrian level street lighting. Services provided by CGA included civil engineering, landscape architecture, and surveying.
Year Completed: Ongoing
Proposed Team Member's ExperienceRobert W.
