POMT was constructed as public-private partnership <br />(PPP). As a consultant to the design-build team, Langan provided subsurface investigation and geotechnical engineering evaluation <br />required for design of the TBM, tunnels, entry/exit shafts, ground improvement, and the associated roadway and access improvements. <br />During Construction, Langan provided construction administration, support and monitoring during construction of bridge foundations, <br />support of excavation (SOE) systems for TBM entry/exit shafts, ground improvement (grouting, shallow cement-soil mixing, and cutter- <br />soil mixing (CSM)), and geotechnical instrumentation monitoring. <br />Cost: $787M <br />b. Because of the congested urban nature of the project site, the interceptors were installed primarily using a microtunneling <br />boring machine (MTBM) with invert depths of 15 to 25 feet. The project also included the construction of vertical shafts for MTBM launch <br />and retrieval and for the installation of permanent access structures. As the geotechnical consultant, Langan provided subsurface <br />investigation and geotechnical site characterization necessary for developing the MTBM and shaft excavation methods. Langan also <br />performed an environmental assessment along the alignment to identify potential sources of soil and groundwater contamination. <br /> Cost: $18.8M <br />c. Langan completed a subsurface investigation for the proposed improvements <br />and provided geotechnical engineering recommendations. <br />Cost: $178,567 (Fees) <br />d.
